As I sit here at 23:07 Wednesday 22nd June. The first signs of rain came with a light thunder roll. Not to long after a flash of lightning followed by more lightning, not ten minutes later the rain began to fall. The light patter along with the warm heat leaned itself to a romantic and sensual feeling. Soft tunes of heartbreak play on Youtube. My impromptu late piece of writing came from a walk home from choir rehearsals. It was after 10.00pm and the last light in the sky was almost out. I had to stop and take a moment on how beautiful the sky was, and how truly amazing how the world works. As I turned to look at the other parts of the sky the darkness had already settled in for the night. I stood for a moment to take in the wonder that surrounds me.
Why write about something that happens every night? Why indeed. Because we get so caught up in the busyness of our lives that we truly forget to live. Living isn’t just spending time with family and friends but also spending time alone and just noticing the things around you. In this instance, ‘The last light’ A feeling of calm came over me and at once all those nuisances were no longer. They were not even a blip on my radar. The worry of tomorrow fell asleep and the regrets of the past faded.
My music plays on and the rain continues to fall, the light turned off, the room illuminated by the large computer screen and the familiar sound of taping keys as I write this piece. These moments are so rare and rarer still if you do not recognise the fact that you need them. Some time, a moment, to breathe and just let go of all thoughts and feelings that cause you anxiety and frustration.
Life is there for you to take notice and appreciate the things that you take for granted. Life is there to remind you that the things you think matter don’t. Life is there to show you the subtle things to bring you to a place where you can continue with……….
